Autonomous Robotics Class Project
Being very interested in pursuing robotics as a career, I elected to take a graduate-level Autonomous Robotics class as an undergrad to learn as much as possible during my undergrad program. The final project for this class involved designing, building, and programming a mobile robot to solve a real-world problem. Having worked in Supply Chain at a manufacturing facility for 7 years, I saw the opportunity to solve some of the picking and material handling challenges that are regularly faced in this industry environment.
The design I created used a small two-wheeled mobile robot run by a raspberry pi and fitted with a 360 degree LIDAR scanner to obtain 2D range data. Given a position to navigate to, the robot would determine its current location, plan a route to the desired location and proceed there while avoiding obstacles.
